I’m Liz Keegan, publisher of the 32 issues of Flair Magazine produced between October 2007 and July 2014.
Flair magazine was the UK’s one and only machine embroidery magazine packed full of beautiful projects, with plenty of tips and techniques and masses of fascinating snippets and news. Although new issues of the magazine are not being produced you can still buy printed back copies and digital downloads from the Flair shop.
Also in the shop are designs and patterns and more is being added, so it is well worth a browse.
I was commissioned by Search Press to put my years of experience into a really useful volume The Complete Machine Embroidery Manual (£12.99 from Search Press) also published in the US as The Sewing Machine Embroiderer’s Bible.
It is a book to get embroidery sewing machine users thinking about machine embroidery and contains all the knowhow needed to begin your journey as an enthusiastic machine embroiderer. There are nine chapters from how to find your way around your machine to which stabiliser to use with which fabric, through to different techniques and types of embroidery design you may come across. It also includes an invaluable quick reference section on troubleshooting some common problems. This book will help you to get the most from your sewing machine using inbuilt stitches and is useful whatever your model. Do have a browse of the reviews on Amazon.
Meanwhile, I may bump into you:
- at the 2015 Festival of Quilts where I’m teaching a small project for Husqvarna/Viking. Do come and say hello;
- or on one of the computerised machine embroidery courses I run regularly at Exeter Sewing Machine Company;
So, Flair Magazine may be no more but I’m still putting a lot of Flair into the rest of my activities and will keep you posted.
